Learn about Bokeh and Blaze from Peter Wang

Details

We will continue on the big data / scientific python theme for our Presentation Night on Sept 10 and learn more about Bokeh and Blaze.

Talk 1: Bokeh: Interactive Web Plots and Dashboards

Bokeh lets Python programmers and data scientists create interactive, novel plots for the web. This talk will give an overview of its capabilities, demonstrate some of the latest features like widgets and dashboards, and showcase some of the large data visualization work that is under active development.

Talk 2: Blaze: Overview and Tutorial

This talk will introduce Blaze, an ambitious effort to provide a uniform, Pythonic interface to modern datasets and computation platforms. It includes ideas and elements from popular tools like Numpy and Pandas, but provides a richer schema for "messy" data and, more importantly, builds an expression graph which can be evaluated on a variety of "backends" ranging from CSV files to SQL, Mongo, and Spark. In addition to providing an overview of the core ideas, this talk will also walk through some example IPython Notebooks showing the current status of development.

Speaker Bio:

At Continuum, Peter is actively involved in the Bokeh, Blaze, and Wakari projects.
