What we’re about
Welcome to Caravanserai! I’m Preetam, your host.
This free, non-commercial meetup is open to everyone — no matter your travel experience. We share stories, explore ethnic neighbourhoods and food, and connect with travellers passing through Singapore.
Join us to stay curious, engage with cultures, and discuss the ideas shaping our world.
Why Caravanserai?
In days past, traveling caravans would rest at a caravanserai — a roadside inn where strangers gathered. Around the fire at night, they shared stories of the people and places they had encountered, hoping to learn from one another.
We’re inspired by that spirit — a place to pause, connect, and exchange stories across cultures.

More:
Locals in many popular tourist spots are fed up with tourists who fail to follow norms and become a nuisance. Because of this, many travelers are finding local interactions less warm.We are also seeing an increasing trend: people traveling to connect with people rather than just physical attractions. Our last meet-up in Saigon had local Vietnamese asking where they could meet locals in Singapore in regular neighborhoods to learn more about their lives.
How can we be better tourists? Should we avoid famous sites and destinations altogether? What over-touristed places will you avoid? Do you travel to meet people instead of seeing crowded attractions?
Join us to discuss overtourism, alternative destinations, and how we can leave locals with a good memory of ourselves.
