Bay Area All JUG Event at Oracle with James Gosling

All JUGs in the bay area will be getting together to do a big event at Oracle in Santa Clara.  We'll kick off with an outdoor summer picnic and networking hour and end the evening with James Gosling's talk entitled "Robots and Oceans and Whales, Oh My!"

Useful talk on Raspberry Pi. I haven't done any work with embedded devices, but this provided an easy entry to getting my feet wet. James Gosling's talk on what he's doing with Liquid Robotics was fascinating. It combined the technical as well as physical challenges faced by a unique solution - check out liquidr.com.

Good timing for the Raspberry Pi talk. I just got order/shipping confirmation for mine from a supplier not listed in the talk (http://www.newark.com/ - Newark/element 14). Shipped from the east coast - should arrive next week. Can't wait!

Fascinating talk by Gosling, with a good mixture of software and hardware.

Meeting dragged on a bit, especially the Q&A for Gosling. A touch more structure would have been a good thing.

Embedded Java talk had good real practical info -- yeah, not Rocket Science but a number of time-saving config tips&tricks.

Gosling talk was nice! Maybe there's another talk in the future about how the open data effort goes for Liquid Robotics.

For me it was amazing. It was great to see James having a lot of fun using Java on this ocean robotics application as well as display/management of data on World Wind. This is a high interest area for me since I am involved in an open source project with underwater robotics (OpenROV.com). While we are at the other end of the economic spectrum there are common themes - Java on embedded for example as well as sensor data acquisition.

I attended the meet after a long break and thought it was ok. It was not a topic of my choice so I would say for folks who are interested in Embedded java, this would be a better experience.

Great meet-up. Nice presentation on the Raspberry Pi board and embedded Java. James Gosling's presentation was genuinely interesting and kind of mind-blowing. Great talks.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
