Kevin Nilson and I have been in discussions with Oracle about doing something for the local Java developer community here in the Bay Area to fill the void of no JavaOne until the fall. We recently confirmed May 12th as the date for a gathering of the extended community of JVM language developers belonging to the various Java, JavaFX, Scala, Groovy, JRuby, etc... user groups in this area. This will serve as our JUG's May meeting, but, it is open to members from all the other JVM language user groups in the bay area too.
It is shaping up to be a great event. Many of the local Java Champions and several Oracle Java Technical Leads will be in attendance that night. Plus, we have the Java Posse doing a live recording of their podcast that evening. Finally, we have some great prizes to give away that night: 2 JavaOne Passes and 2 Kindles pre-loaded with several O'Reilly ebooks.
Oracle Security has requested that we collect the name, email, company name, address and phone number for each person that registers for this event. So, we have setup this Eventbrite registration page for that purpose:
Additionally, Stephen Chin has offered to live stream the event and the live event link is:
In closing, please be sure to check the box as a Silicon Valley Web JUG member during registration. We are tracking the distribution of registered attendees by JUG affiliation and the San Francisco JUG has a slight lead on us at the moment. This is completely unacceptable. ;-)
P.S. There is a meetup listed on our site for this event too. You are only required to complete the Eventbrite registration to attend the event on May 12th. The entry on meetup is for historical purposes as part of the calendar of past events for our group. If you want your involvement in the first annual Bay Area JUG Roundup recorded on our meetup site, then you would have to separately RSVP here too:
