Bitcoin and Blockchains is a topic we have always wanted to cover. Luckily Duncan volunteered himself to give us the low down, along with Marie giving examples of how this technology is being used in the industry.

Early stage investment into Bitcoin and Blockchain companies has outpaced that of early stage investments into Internet startups by more than 25%.

This presentation will cover 3 main areas, the history of Bitcoin and how it works in a nutshell, an introduction to the Blockchain with current and potential use cases, and thirdly how you can get involved.

The event will also be the platform to launch a monthly meetup for Bitcoin and Blockchain enthusiasts and developers.

After a typical childhood of 80's Atari gaming and Commodore 64 geekery, Duncan Johnson built his first website in 1997 and was attracted to the internet because of his fascination with digital innovation and its role in evolving society globally.

His colourful career initially took him into the most creative and innovative industry on the early internet, and the one responsible for the massive demand for broadband and streaming video, the adult industry. After graduating with flying colours he worked for numerous global brands before setting up his own company Yodelay.com which was a social enterprise with the mission to connect capitalism to community. He employed his own developers to produce digital marketing mobile apps, one of which was downloaded over 100K times and was used by brands like Weight Watchers.

After 20 years in the digital marketing game and looking for a move into a more innovative industry, Duncan, like many first discovered Bitcoin about 5 years ago, and then soon became obsessed with the Blockchain. For the last few years he has monitored and researched this incredibly fast evolving technology and has joined the ever growing community of amassadors proclaiming that this technology will change society globally more so than the internet.

Blockchain has appeared as a topic in several of Marie’s conferences in 2016 including Identity & KYC (Know Your Customer), Digital Transformation in Wealth & Asset Management, and RegTech. In addition Marie has worked closely with several leading experts on regulation and cryptocurrencies (inc. Sian Jones of COINsult, Robert Courtneidge of Lock Lorde). This resulted in a highly acclaimed masterclass series on Blockchain for senior executives in Finance.

Marie’s contribution to the evening will be to share some case study insights on Blockchain projects currently on-going in the finance industry.
