Abstract
The Columbus Dispatch is not just in print! Join us and learn how the Dispatch moved their digital presence from a local traditional data center into the Amazon Cloud. The Dispatch will cover not only why they selected Amazon as their cloud provider but will cover high level Amazon services they are using. These Amazon services include:
EC2 Elastic Load Balancer Simple Queue Service Elastic Cache Email Sending Service Relational Database Service Simple Storage Service (S3) Elastic Block Store (EBS) SimpleDB (nosql) Cloud Watch (monitoring).
Speaker Bios
James Schimmoeller is the Web IT Manager for The Columbus Dispatch. James has over 20 years of software development experience. He has witnessed the IT evolution from the mainframe to client server and now to the cloud environment. He is knowledgeable in numerous market verticals from government both state and federal, utilities, banking, manufacturing and multimedia. James is excited about cloud technologies and has experience moving servers from a traditional data center environment into a virtual machine (VM) infrastructure. For the last two years he has planned, engineered, and deployed the Columbus Dispatch digital presence consisting of over 42 production sites into the Amazon cloud while maintaining a secure communication with legacy systems and PCI compliance. James is also is a technical advisor for 2 local non-profit organizations and is always keeping up with and learning new technology so that he always remains current. David Landreman is the incoming Web IT Manager for The Columbus Dispatch. David has technical experience in both the higher education and news media sectors. Originally starting with traditional desktop application development David has found a passion in following the latest technologies driving the web forward. David served in the role of Senior Software Engineer as the Columbus Dispatch migrated to the cloud helping drive many design decisions through the process. Follow David @GraphIt2000.
