Hardware Hacking Night -Beginning Electronics

Details

This class intends to go over the basics of DC electronics and circuits. It will include such exciting topics as fluid analogies to make understanding electricity a bit more intuitive, how to use a multimeter, and the basic mathematical models for figuring out circuits: Ohm's Law, Kirchoff's Current Law, and Kirchoff's Voltage Law. We'll go over basic components, schematic reading, and build some simple DC circuits to practice the concepts. These topics are the foundation of just about everything to do with electronics, so if you're not familiar, this is a great place to start.

If you'd like to, you can bring the following to the class to build your own circuits, or you can just show up and watch me do it for you:

• A Multimeter

• 9V Battery with leads that plug into a solderless breadboard and/or an Arduino (you'll just be using it as a 5V 'battery' for the stuff in the class)

• Solderless breadboard for building circuits

• Jumper wires for connecting components on the breadboard

• LEDs (any color you like)

• Resistors (some resistors in the 100-500 Ohm range would be best, but bring whatever you have)
