Bell Pass Out and Back
Weather is perfect!
Length: about 6-7 miles; 2-3 hours
Difficulty: Difficult! We'll keep a good pace, even thru the STEEP section near the top. This is a good FITNESS hike. You'll like it best if you've been hiking regularily and prefer a fairly brisk pace.
Not recommended for beginners.
Dog Friendly: yes, on leash, just be sure to bring lots of water for your dog too
Location: GPS isn't always reliable, so here are directions: Take Frank Lloyd Wright east from 101, then turn north/left on Thompson Peak Pkwy. Continue on Tpeak north OVER Bell Road and watch for the signs on the right for Gateway. If you hit Union Hills, you've gone to far north.
If you like to combine fitness with wilderness with luxury facilities, all at an inner city location, you'll love this hike. We traverse a little of Gateway Loop before veering off into the quiet canyon, making our way up, up and then some very steep up. We'll hit the top of Bell Pass, salute our soldiers, then turn around back to the Gateway.
