Vegetarian Meetup group name change

Hello Vegetarian Meetup members,

You may have noticed that for the past year or two we've had most of our events in conjunction with the Vegan Meetup group. That's been because I'm organizer of both. Well I finally decided to start the process of combining the two groups.

This makes logical sense because most/all of our events are the same and many members are the same as well.
I understand that the food choices (and other lifestyle) choices may not be the same for both groups, but I'm positive that members of both groups are open-minded enough to welcome the variety of thoughts, ideas and life choices made by vegans and vegetarians.

I took some steps today toward combining the two groups:
1. This one you'll notice first, I changed the name of this group to reflect the inclusion of vegans as well. This group is now the
"Vegetarian & Vegan Meetup of Chapel Hill, Durham & Raleigh"
I also threw "Raleigh" in there to capture the 3 main cities where we have meetups. I wanted to add the word "area" at the end of the list to be even more inclusive, but Meetup wouldn't let me make the name any longer ;)
I also placed what we are (vegetarian & vegan) at the start of the group name rather than after the cities like it was before. This better reflects the focus of the group which is on the topic rather than the location since our members come from all over. Also it better matches what I actually call the group: the Veg Meetup :)

2. I closed the Vegan Meetup to new members and wrote a note on the main page telling people that I would be combining the two groups and directing new members to come join this group.

3. I am emailing all of you to let you know about the change.

4. I will shortly email the vegan group to tell anyone who is not already in this group to join since I will plan to close down that group sometime next year.

I know this is a lot of news and I thank you for reading this long email.
Those of you who are also in the vegan group will be seeing even more email from me since you'll also get the message mentioned in item 4. Sorry :(

It has taken me well over a year to finally do this and I really debated with myself over the fairness of forcing the two groups to combine, but I've spoken with several people from the vegan group (which would be most affected by this change) and they have been supportive.

I hope this might also make things a bit simpler so people won't feel compelled to check both sites to be sure they haven't missed something or to look for an open spot for a meetup.

Please feel free to drop me a line with any feedback you have on this plan. You may also post comments on the message board since I plan to post this there as well.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you sometime in the future.
Go Veg!
(group organizer)
