What we’re about
Human Centred Design (HCD) UAE, formerly User Experience (UX) UAE, was born from Designers new to the region and wanting to share experiences and grow the UAE Design community. The mission of this meetup is for Designers to get together and talk about best practices and emerging techniques in Human Centred Design. We welcome people from all backgrounds interested in design. We meet as often as we can and in the spirit of further education set an optional reading component from a book related to the topic of discussion. Details of the books read and the upcoming reading list will be published in advance. You can be ensured of a lively discussion on all things design.

Portfolio Critiques: Service Design and Design Research (Dubai)
Lock, Stock & Barrel JBR, The Walk - Dubai Marina, Dubai, AEOne last big one to end the year!
We’re closing out an incredible year for the Human Centred Design (HCD) UAE Meetup with a special finale at LOCK, STOCK, & BARREL LLC, Rixos Hotels JBR and this one’s all about the craft behind Service Design, Design Research, and Content Design.
This time, we’re tackling a big question:
👉 Do these disciplines even need portfolios?
And if they do, what should they look like?Unlike UX or Visual Design, where the work is often tangible, these roles shape systems, stories, and evidence, so how do you showcase that?
We’ll explore this with an expert panel of leaders and hiring managers from across the region (to be announced in the coming weeks).
📍 Lock, Stock & Barrel – Rixos JBR
🗓️ Thursday 20 Nov | From 6:30 PM💬 To submit your portfolio for consideration in the live critique, drop a comment on this LinkedIn post with YES I'll be there and your link or website.
A huge thanks to our partners at aspexx. Peter Mackintosh and Jack Kidd, to Chris Clark for all his work behind the scenes and to every designer, researcher, and strategist who’s helped this community grow stronger each month.
Let’s finish the year with great conversations, big ideas, and maybe a few surprises.
