Mongolian Grill, Veggie and Vegan Style!

BD's Mongolian Grill is a fun and energetic restaurant located on Coventry in Cleveland Heights.  In many ways, if you don't like BD's Mongolian Grill, you can't blame the restaurant at all... because you make your own dish!  BD's is a buffet of raw foods (that end up cooked), sauces and spices where you have total control over what you choose to make.  For the more adventurous, the sky is the limit.  Otherwise there are plenty of recipe cards to follow.  The concept is this, set up in a buffet-line style:

1) Choose your raw veggies.  There is a huge amount to choose from, so you will not go hungry.  They do have raw meat on the buffet as well, so if you do not like to be in the same place that serves meat, this may not be the place for you.  In addition, there are several types of pasta/noodles, tofu, and even Gardein 'beef' and 'chicken'.

2) Choose your sauce(s).  There are many sauces to choose from.  I double-checked with a manager, and he stated there are several vegan options.  In addition, an allergy listing is located near the serving area, so those with food allergies can see right away what sauces they should avoid.

3) Choose your spice(s), if any.  Plenty of spices to choose from.

4) Watch the grillers do their magic.  You will take your bowl to the central area of the restaurant where the grillers will place it on a large grill and cook it right in front of you, which takes about 5 minutes or so.  For vegetarians, they can section off your food and use special utensils so it will not come in contact with meat.  They use a soy-based cooking oil, so is vegan friendly.  Also, for those with food allergies, they can cook your food separately in the back kitchen if you desire.  The manager again assured me that vegans will be right at home.

In addition, there is a full salad bar, a small bar with some very tasty microbrews and mixed drinks, and some awesome desserts.  Web Site is . Hope you can make it!  If this proves popular, it may become a monthly event.
