South Loop Walk

Joe Steffen will lead a 2 hour, 2.9 mile walk through the new Central Station residential neighborhood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Station_%28Chicago_neighborhood%29), the Prairie Avenue Landmark District (http://webapps.cityofchicago.org/landmarksweb/web/districtdetails.htm?disId=26), and the site of the infamous Levee (http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/1304.html), as described in the book Sin in the Second City: Madams, Ministers, Playboys, and the Battle for America's Soul (http://www.amazon.com/Sin-Second-City-Ministers-Playboys/dp/0812975995/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332938944&sr=8-1), following this route. We will walk even if it is raining, so bring an umbrella or poncho. Please do not bring your dog.

Directions: CTA: Take the Green, Orange, or Red Line to Roosevelt and walk 1.5 blocks east to Michigan Ave.Metra: Take the Metra Electric District Line (http://metrarail.com/content/metra/en/home/maps_schedules/metra_system_map/me/map.html) to the Museum Campus/11th St. station, walk west to Michigan Ave. and south 1 block to Roosevelt Rd..Driving: Street parking last year was $2/hour, 3 hours max.
