WordPress Network (Multisite)

Let's talk about WordPress Network (Multisite): what it is, how to use it, and the special considerations it requires.

Speakers

Chad Warner: Intro to WordPress Network (Multisite)

Mika Epstein: Dos and Don'ts of WordPress Network (Multisite) (via Hangout On Air at 6:30 PM)

Steve Colthorp has a Multisite question for Mika. We'll try to ask it before 6:45 PM.

    The fix for 'endless' looping of subdirectory domains in a multi-site network (for me, at least, on 2 different site networks):

    /** code from: tommcfarlin.com to resolve redirect loop */
    define('ADMIN_COOKIE_PATH', '/');
    define('COOKIEPATH', '');
    define('SITECOOKIEPATH', '');

    Added these 3 lines to wp-config.php and everything is now copacetic. I added these lines to the second network of sites *while* the loop was in full effect, and the Reloaded the page -- instant gratification.

    FWIW!

    Hey all, I found out (with a nudge in the right direction from Mika!) that browser Cookies look to be the culprit... sub-directory sites that were previously endless-looping now resolved properly to their respective domains after I used the Web Dev Toolbar's: "Cookies > Delete Session Cookies" after logging into the Admin of the Network (main site). Now to properly clear session cookies upon login... I'll report back on that 2nd phase.

    I mentioned this plugin tonight that groups network activated plugins: https://wordpress.org/plugins/blue-network-plugins/

    Not been updated in a while but is reliable in its simplicity.

    I so wanted to be there but have a conflict. (I think Multisite might be a solution for me but I need to learn more about it first.)

    Hi,
    I don't know very much about WordPress but want to learn more. Are these the kind of work shops I should attend or are there other beginner work shops out there?
    Thanks,
    Jim

      Jim, we cover a variety of topics, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. There are also other WordPress meetups that may cover beginner-level topics:
      Kalamazoo: http://www.meetup.com...
      Jackson: http://www.meetup.com...

      There are many great ways to learn online too. Here are a few: http://optimwise.com/...

      Hope to see you at a future meetup!
