Dev Environments and Version Control

Let's talk about development environments and version control for WordPress.

Gregg Franklin of ServerPress will do a live demo of DesktopServer (http://serverpress.com/products/desktopserver/), a local development environment. Gregg will be joining us via Google Hangout at 6:15 PM.

Brian Richards will speak about working with Git on the command line to demonstrate how not-terrifying it is, as well as how easy it is to work on code locally, in staging, and in production without ever fearing the destruction of a production site.

Brian may also talk about his simple local setup on OS X, which only requires installing MySQL and editing two separate files (OS X provides everything else you need).

Bob Orchard may speak about his local setup, depending on time.
