Re: Marketing
Hi Owen,

I thought Sherrie did an excellent job yesterday.  So much information.  It is becoming more and more clear about all the work that needs to be done to market our books.  I know a bit about social media, but not nearly to the extent that Sherrie does.

I have met with Sherrie and she is excellent.  She is most knowledgeable and very patient.  I like her very much.  She is very positive and encouraging.

I can check with my editor (Max Chalmers) to see if she is available to edit your manuscript.  I was very happy with the editing job done on my novel.  I don’t know if Max is ready to take on another project or not; I will ask.

Editing costs vary VERY much.  Costs vary if your editor simply corrects grammar vs. correcting plot/story line, and there are further degrees with this.  You should negotiate a fee with your editor.  I would shy away from an editor who charges an hourly rate, because what if they’re slow?  Some charge on a per page basis, but this is not accurate to to varying type sizes, spacing, and 6x9 vs. 5x8, etc.  More accurately, some editors charge on a per word basis.
PER HOUR: $20/hr. to $75/hr.  This can vary.
PER PAGE:  Huge variation... I’ve seen 20 cents per page to $3 per page.
: 2—8 cents per word, based on $20/hr.  Some charge up to 20 cents per word.  Ouch!

Many editors give a sample editing job of 500 words
(give or take) so you can sample their work.

I can help you set up a blog, though I am a beginner.  You lent me the Photoshop book, so let me help you.

I love artist who created my book cover, but he only has a specific style, and it’s a dark one.  If you look at my cover, that’s his style.  If you like it, I will look up his contact info and send to you.  You can see my cover on my blog page, scroll to bottom.  If you choose to go with a different cover design person, google “book cover designers” and check their websites.  They will show samples of their work.

I still have your Photoshop book.  I am going through it page by page.  If you want it back soon, let me know.  I have also been meeting with a man once a week, and he is showing me a few things.  I don’t pay him in cash, but I allow his two boys to train in martial arts at my dojang.

Maybe we should get together with our laptops and show each other what we know about Photoshop.

Hi Amy,

The session was great with lots of info. I've been working on my manuscript and haven't paid attention to social media and other things. Many things to learn. In a week or so I'll be ready to send off for copy editing. And I am thinking to get some consultation from Sherrie W. (going to call her on Monday morning), though I'm not sure what I can get for $150.

About copyediting:  I have two people in mind (learned about them through Editorial Freelance Association) but haven't settled which one yet. (I advertised on their website and got many responses; I got a lot of sample edits on my work. One of them I hired to evaluate my novel.) Do you have someone you could recommend? (I think we can support each other through this type of information exchanges among other things.)

Your blog: can you send me the link?

Cover design: I was going to start working on the cover pretty soon, but I guess I should consider hiring someone. Can you send me info on your cover designer?

Are you still working on Photoshop? I have to learn a lot more, but maybe I can show you some of the steps I already know?
