Lincoln Labs Liberty Hackathon

Details

Since Open Source Finance members did pretty well at the Stanford Data Journalism Hackathon, I thought we could try again.

A new organization, Lincoln Labs, is holding a Hackathon on June 21 and 22. For more details, see http://lincolnlabs.com/ . I learned about this in Monday's Chronicle. See http://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/joegarofoli/article/Conservative-techies-help-GOP-go-digital-4555396.php . As you'll see, the organizers are Republicans who supported Mitt Romney, so if you find that brand of politics offensive, this may not be the Hackathon for you. Since the call for participants asks "do you have ideas for market-based solutions that address big social problems?," I thought it was relevant to the group.

I do not have any information about this hackathon aside from what is published on the web site. My intention is to build a team to develop a web site that would allow users to visualize and analyze public pension data for California cities. This plan will become inoperative if the organizers do not allow participants to use their own data sets. My group collected the pension data as part of our California city default modeling project. Please note that the rules specify that all work submitted for judging at the Hackathon must be done during the hours of the session, so we won't be able to play with this data prior to the event.

If you choose to participate, please register for the Hackathon at http://lincolnlabs.com/ and RSVP for this meetup. The registration deadline is June 13.
