1 Million Cups - Ascent

1 Million Cups to feature Ascent on Wednesday January 29th in Cedar Rapids at 9am. Lydia Brown will share how Ascent is providing strategic resources and mentorship to women business owners across the state of Iowa.

Ascent (http://www.ascentiowa.org/index.php/) is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to inspire and support women in business ownership by helping them grow in a meaningful way, to create jobs, drive economies and strengthen communities. The idea for Ascent came from the realization that Iowa ranked last among the states in women owned businesses. Lydia and her team set out to change that stat lead an initiative to help Iowa's women-owned businesses grow.

About 1 Million Cups:
1 Million Cups was first developed at the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City in April of 2012 as a simple way to engage entrepreneurs in the community. The Iowa City/Cedar Rapids edition was launched in March 2013 and was the 6th community in the country to do so. Today, the program is in 21 cities across the country-giving entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their companies and get feedback. The format of the program gives each entrepreneur 6 minutes to pitch their company, followed by 20 minutes of q&a and feedback.

The program rotates each week between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
