Growing and Scaling Production Engineering

Details
Come join us for a night of discussion around Production Engineering! Talks will last anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes with a 10 minute Q&A at the end of every talk. Food and refreshments will be provided.
Please check back in the coming weeks for additional updates.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Agenda:
Speaker 1: Donald Sumbry (Production Engineering, Uber)
Production Engineering Competencies - “Uber recognized long ago that production engineering is a different discipline and skillset than software engineering. While both are engineers and write software, one focuses on features while the other focuses on the operation and automation of large scale distributed systems. This talk will walk you through the specific engineering competencies we use and how we differ the work of our Production Engineers."
Speaker 2: Kevin Greenan (Blameless)
Kevin will cover how Blameless designed their infrastructure to involve minimal operational staff, as well as the challenges in leveraging cloud IaaS in combination with Terraform, Kuebernetes, Helm and custom scripts to efficiently build and operate highly-available and fault-tolerant infrastructure.
About Kevin:
Kevin is currently a founding engineer at Blameless, helping to automate SRE practices and observability for the complicated world we live in. He was previously a Principal Software Engineer at Box, where he helped design, implement and operate Box's internal storage infrastructure and helped migrate Box's backend infrastructure to microservices running in Kubernetes. Prior to Box, Kevin spend about 8 years developing new erasure code schemes, new ways to measure reliability and enterprise disk arrays.
