Join 350-CT and allied organizations for a peaceful, legal march in New Haven against the Spectra fracked gas pipeline expansion and false solutions to climate change! The Yale School of Forestry will be having its New Directions in Environmental Law conference with keynote speaker Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) who has been an outspoken advocate for fracking (change to “fracked gas pipeline expansions” ? ) , despite his reputation as a climate champion. This will be an educational protest in solidarity with Rhode Island anti-fracking activists who have been asking the Senator to come out against the Spectra pipeline expansion that is poised to begin throughout the northeast in the very near future.
We will be handing out flyers to people entering the conference, informing them of the dangers of fracked gas and why we don't need more piplelines in CT.

Hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") is an incredibly destructive and dangerous form of fossil fuel extraction, which has been promoted by the energy industry as a clean alternative to foreign oil sources. Unfortunately, natural gas emissions still contribute far too much carbon & methane to the global climate change disaster we are currently living through. The environmental destruction caused by this pipeline and fracking -- in both its extration and burning phases -- massively outweigh any geopolitics benefits or jobs created, when we know renewable energy infrastructure can create just as many jobs. The Spectra pipeline expansion will not only take us in the completely opposite direction we need to go in, the compressor stations along its route have proven to be a major environmental hazard, sparking outrage in front-line communities along the route such as Burrillville, RI.
