Sweathouse Falls Huckleberry Hike

If you're reading this, huckleberries might be in your very near future—whether you love them in pancakes, prefer them in ice cream, or are the type who eats them straight off the bush (no judgment here). Join us this weekend for a hike to Sweathouse Falls and put your huckleberry picking skills to the test. You might be thinking, “But Mark, isn’t it too early for huckleberries?” Well, let me tell you, these huckleberries are the real deal. Hopefully the bears leave us some by the weekend!

The trailhead is about a 45 minute drive from the south side of Missoula. Getting to the falls is a steady climb, but the trail is heavily shaded until you approach the falls. The event time includes 30–45 minutes for lunch and, of course, huckleberry hunting.

If you're interested in carpooling, I’ll be at the south Walmart (parked near the lawn and garden center) at 9:00 AM. I drive a silver Mazda sedan and have room for two, if you're okay sharing the back seat with my small dog (he might beg for berries on the way home). I’ll head out around 9:05 to get to the trailhead early. Leave a comment or message me if you'd like a ride. If you're not riding with me but are open to carpooling, please also plan to meet at Walmart around that time.

• Duration: Conservatively 3.5 hours (not including drive time)
• Difficulty: Moderate
• Elevation Gain: Around 1,500 ft

What to Bring:

• Snacks or lunch
• Bear spray
• Water
• A bag or container for your berry bounty
