Details

Free Screening of The Crash Course with Chris Martenson

A documentary about the links between energy, environment and the economy. Followed by facilitated discussion on how to make your neighborhood more sustainable and more resilient.

Monday, February 10, 7 - 9 PM Coffeed, 37-18 Northern Blvd., LIC, NY 11101 near 36th St. stop on R & M
Sponsored by Resilience NYC Meetup https://www.meetup.com/resiliencenyc/

Our economy, energy systems and environment are interdependent and will face increasing challenges as we continue to run up against the limits of finite natural resources - and record levels of debt. Martenson deflates the myth of unlimited economic growth, and calls for moving toward a more locally focused, steady-state economy, while increasing personal and community resilience. To present these issues in a factual, easily digestible way, scientist and former Fortune 300 finance VP Chris Martenson created the Crash Course.

Its 20 video sections take 3 1/2 hours to watch and can be seen for free online at www.peakprosperity.com. There have been over 5 million views of the Course, now available in book form. He was recently profiled on the PBS News Hour. After a video short from Post Carbon Institute about the limits to economic growth, we'll screen the 45 minute summary version of the Crash Course. Following the screening we'll explore how to make our neighborhoods more sustainable and more resilient. A resource guide with links to existing NYC programs will be provided.
