What

A presentation and roundtable discussion focused on challenges and opportunities for using technology* to understand life on Earth, sometimes called the Internet of Living Things.

What are you working on? What are you curious about? Come hang!

We're going to spend two hours hearing local entrepreneurs and technologists talk about their internet of living things projects, and discuss the challenges and opportunities they face. This event is in partnership with Urban AgTech (http://urbanagtech.com/), Common Garden (http://commongarden.org/), and Hamama (https://www.hamama.cc/).

What we need from you: bring something to share, whether a design, prototype, photograph, or painting. Who says show and tell is just for kids??

Also, check out the Digital Farm Lab Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/992471915/digital-farm-lab), brought to you by Urban AgTech! They've almost met their $9,500 goal!

*technology as defined by Kevin Kelly in his book "What Technology Wants," outlined here (http://www.mindmedley.com/portfolio/technology-wants-kevin-kelly/).

What is Manylabs?

Manylabs supports independent researchers, educators, and makers pursuing "science for good" projects. We aim to support learning communities that can use data and scientific arguments to address real-world problems and fuel civic change. We hope to increase collaboration in science, technology, and civic engagement within and outside of our own building, inspiring project advancement and innovation.

Our Building

The Manylabs workspace opened in March of 2015 and is under active development. Located in the SoMa area of San Francisco on Folsom Street, our building is a three-story repurposed industrial space. The first floor is an exhibit and event space, the second floor is a makers' workshop, and the top floor houses our open office for current members.

Co-working Membership

We invite you to collaborate with our community! We select applicants whose "science for good" efforts are poised to transform science, education, and/or beneficiary outcomes. Our members have deep portfolios in their respective areas of expertise bridging science, computer science, electronics, manufacturing, education, and/or educational technologies, and more. Members work and collaborate in our building, host events here, and participate in our community.

Applications are due on the 15th of each month, and accepted applicants begin membership on the 1st of the following month. Members pay reasonable monthly fees. While we establish our set rates, at this time, we can provide a sliding scale based on your individual use of the space. Have more questions or interested in a tour before you apply? Please email our executive director, Dvorit at manylabs.org
