Astoria Summer Annual Pre-Independance Day Fireworks And Celebration 2014

The annual Astoria park fireworks display will take place on June 30th 2014 at dusk in Astoria Park. It is a pre-4th of July show that will be handle by the Grucci family. I went the last 3 year and am quite impressed on how good it is. This is a great opportunity to practice your fireworks photography before the 4th of July. I suggest coming as early as possible since the park starts to fill at 5pm. There will be a big crowd and you will not be able to find us if you arrive late. I will be there about 6:00pm, and will have a Meetup sign on my tripod. Besides the typical fireworks pictures you usually see (such as the picture on the top), I will be using the varifocus technique on my firework pictures (as seen by the bottom two pictures).

We will be on the grassy area between the Astoria Park Pool and the Hell Gate Bridge (In the top photo, that's the Hell Gate Bridge). Last year, cell phone service failed because there weren't enough cell phone towers in the area. I suggest you bring something to drink and maybe a snack. Also, tripods are a must if you want a good shot (chances are we will have to spread out to get good shots as there will be a lot of people).
