About Our Comedians
Deanna Ortiz is Chicago Reader’s 2022 and 2023 Best Standup Of the Year. She is the host of the podcast ‘Crushes!’, which was nominated for Best Podcast in the Chicago Reader Best Of. She has also been featured in Vulture for the ‘Hot Or Just Tall’ game that accompanies it. She is a contributing writer for NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me and the The Onion/AV Club. Her standup has been featured in Vulture, WGN News, FOX Good Day Chicago, and TimeOut Chicago. Any time she can connect genuinely with people, Ortiz is happy. Her comedy is often seasoned with pop culture references – fun for everyone – and personal stories told in a way that makes you feel like each joke was written just for you.
Sofia Javed is a Chicago-based comedian and writer. Her humor is inspired by her life as a brown woman in America, her love of languages, and her former career as a cubicle bureaucrat. Sofia performs around Chicago in venues such as the Laugh Factory and Zanies Comedy Club. And at the top venues in Washington, D.C., including the DC Improv and the DC Comedy Loft. She has been featured in The Washington Post, and she appears in two footnotes on Wikipedia. Sohrab Forouzesh is a Chicago based comedian and writer who won't take it personally if you say his name wrong. He moved to the U.S from Iran when he was just eight years old, and his material is heavily influenced by his experiences as a fat Persian kid growing up in America. His rapid-fire delivery paired with his down to earth relatability is what makes him a favorite of the Chicago comedy scene. Along with being a finalist for StandUP NBC in 2019, Sohrab also tours colleges and was also a writer for the sketch show Group Therapy featured on Complex. If you’re ever in Chicago make sure to catch him at the world famous Laugh Factory, Comedy Bar, and Zanies Comedy Club. Sohrab got his start in comedy while attending Western Michigan University where he won The Kalamazoo Comedy Competition and was a finalist in the TBS and Rooftop Comedy’s National College Comedy Competition. Before graduating college he opened for Nick Swardson and performed at the prestigious Gilda’s Laughfest Comedy Festival and was just recently part of The Netflix is a Joke Festival.
