Cooking Adventure - "Japanese New Year's Food" for Dinner :)
Details
Hi,
It's been a while since the new year started, but let us say "Happy New Year"!! Hope we'll make many more happy memories through cooking together in 2018! :)
Our next cooking class will be "Japanese New Year's Food" on Sunday Jan. 28th, starting at 3:30pm. The event will take place in Santa Clara, and the location will be sent to those who sign up 2 or 3 days prior to the event date.
Japanese people celebrate the New Year's Days with traditional New Year's Food, called Osechi. There are many special dishes to be served as Osechi, but we've picked up two of our favorite dishes from them, Inari Sushi and Chikuzen-ni. We'll also cook one soup dish to go with them.
What we will learn in the event are below:
- Inari Sushi
Inari Sushi is a stuffed sushi in deep fried tofu skin, which is cooked in a sweet broth. It is very popular in a Japanese home dish, often seen at a picnic in a bento box. You'll see Inari Sushi in Osechi as well. You'll learn how to season fried tofu skin, and how to cook Sushi rice which will be different from Chirashi Sushi or Nigiri Sushi.
- Chikuzen Ni (Simmered Chicken and vegetables)
"Chikuzen" is the old name of Fukuoka prefecture. This food was born in Fukuoka, in the west of Japan. Several types of root vegetables will be used in this dish, and we cook this to wish for our long lives.
- Sawani Wan (Vegetable with Pork Soup)
You will be able to eat lots of vegetables with this soup. This might will be really healthy add-on food on your daily meal!
We are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and some new ones too!
If we don't have at least four people confirmed to attend the event by the end of Thursday on January 25th, this event will be cancelled.
This session fee will be $58/person. Space is limited to 8 participants (a gentle reminder that there are no refunds after 3 days before the event date).
The class will last around 3 hours.
Looking forward to another culinary adventure with you!
