Thomas Hatch is the creator of Salt. Thomas has been a systems architect and systems software developer for private industry and the US government pushing modern devops concepts into many companies over the years. He authored Salt with the hope to create a platform flexible enough, powerful enough and progressive enough to see the potential of modern infrastructures.

Thomas will present a history of Salt and an overview of the design and vision of the project.

We also will do a very quick (10min) introduction to a community project for sharing states. It will be great to gather the Salt founders' feedback about the layout and the best way to enable the community.

SaltMine (https://github.com/saltops/saltmine) is a curated collection of working salt states and configurations for use in your saltstack setup. It is developed as a foundation for devops at Versal with the open-sourced framework. SaltMine is an opinionated system which provides a series of conventions to configure the whole company in a declarative, extensible, concise way. SaltMine will be presented by John Albietz and Alexy Khrabrov. John is the Chief Infrastructure Hacker at Gap and the Cloudlord at Versal. Alexy is a co-founder of Versal, currently creating the best devops setup for a startup based on TDD.
