Unlearning the Pictures: Meditation for 3rd Culture Hearts
Details
Come pause, let go, and experience the calm and clarity of meditation!
What would you feel like if you could set down every memory, habit, and story you’ve carried since childhood?
Throughout our lives, we take mental “pictures” of everything we experience, and many of them quietly shape how we think, feel, and react today. For 3rd Culture individuals, those pictures come from many places, languages, and versions of ourselves. This gathering offers a chance to slow down, look inward, and explore a different way of finding peace.
Together with Irvine Meditation, we’ll be introduced to a simple, step-by-step subtraction method of meditation. Starting with our childhood, we’ll learn to gently let go of the mental pictures we’ve been holding, helping to quiet distractions, release stress, and cultivate greater awareness, calm, and clarity.
Please Note: No previous meditation experience is needed. Just come as you are.
Please Wear: Comfortable clothing.

What Is the Mind?
“The True Mind does not exist, yet it exists. The false mind, which is the human mind, exists, yet it does not exist.”
The human mind is the accumulation of a life lived through habits. It is made of the pictures we have taken of the world throughout our lives. Because those pictures are not real, they leave us feeling incomplete. When we discard this false mind and become one with the Universe Mind, we discover the True Mind, which is real and alive.
For the experience, we’ll weave together:
- A welcoming introduction to meditation and the mind
- A guided look back at the pictures we’ve carried since childhood
- Step-by-step subtraction meditation
- Time for questions and reflection
Come as you are and join us as we discover the calm that’s been there all along.
This introductory session will guide you through a simple, subtraction step-by-step approach to meditation designed to help quiet mental distractions, release stress, and develop greater awareness, calm, and clarity starting with our childhood.
