Austrian Alps, Walking Holiday: 2nd - 9th September 2026 - With Alan and Maria
Salzburgerland, Austria, Lessach 13, Lessach, ATHoliday Wed 2nd to Wed 9th September 2026 - A Guided Walking and Hiking holiday in the Austrian Alps of beautiful Salzburgerland.
Experience beautiful valley and hill walks, and mountain hikes with stunning views, in the Austrian Alps of Salzburgerland, along with its many traditions and customs.
Join us for this small-group, weeklong holiday in Salzburgerland, which includes an overnight stay in the UNESCO World heritage city of Salzburg, with a day of sightseeing, followed by 6 nights and 5 days of guided walks in Salzburg's Lungau region, one of the sunniest regions in all of Austria. In 2012 it was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for its extraordinary nature, quality of life, as well as its rich cultural traditions.
The Lungau area is a walker’s paradise with a wide network of well signed paths that include a great choice of gentle, moderate and challenging walks. Walks through enchanting forests, beautiful flower filled fields, visiting gushing waterfalls and mountain lakes, and hiking up (or take the easier route of a chair lift or cable car ride) to the mountain top, where you can enjoy stunning views of the mountain ranges that make up the Salzburg Alps. Along almost every route you will find a traditional mountain tavern (even at 2000 m high) where you can sit and enjoy something to eat and drink.
You will be met Salzburg airport, by your hosts for the week, Maria and Alan Gove, who will guide and look after you throughout your visit.
Arrival afternoon includes a visit to Hellbrun palace and its magic fountains, transfer to your hotel, followed by an evening meal in Salzburg centre. The next morning will include a visit to Mirabell palace and the Hohen fortress providing amazing views of the whole city, followed by time to explore more of Salzburg, its cathedral, shops and museums, before departing late afternoon for the pretty village of Lessach, an hour and a half’s drive away, where you will stay with Maria and Alan in their beautiful, traditional converted farmhouse ‘Chalet Gove’, which offers a comfortable home-from-home experience in a setting of unrivalled beauty.
Each day Maria and / or Alan will lead you on your day out walking in the Lungau region. Walks will be a mix of valley and hill walks, and the daily plan will be discussed the afternoon prior to ensure it is suitable for everyone in the group. Walks will be for around 4 hours each day (2 in the morning/2 in the afternoon).
As part of the Itinerary there will be the opportunity to visit some of the Castles and museums in the area as well as taking an easy ride to the top of the mountain by chair lift or cable car, and experiencing the many customs and traditions of the area.
Back at the Chalet, you can relax in the spacious but cosy lounge, where tea, coffee, soft drinks and fresh fruit are available at all times or simply sit in the sunny garden and enjoy the views.
Included in your holiday price:
- Transport from and to Salzburg airport and all transport throughout your stay, provided by your hosts, Alan and Maria, in their minibus.
- Hotel Salzburg (1 night) – En-suite double room with breakfast.
- Chalet Gove (6 nights) – Ensuite double/twin room with breakfast each day, homemade afternoon cake and a three-course evening meal with wine on 5 evenings (1 evening eating out) and unlimited tea and coffee.
- Daily guided walks/hikes with Alan and/or Maria.
- A ‘Lungau card’ providing free entry to almost all the tourist attractions whilst staying at Chalet Gove.
- Chair lift ride and Mountain cable car ride - to walks up high without the effort, providing stunning views.

ITINERARY :
Day 1
Arrival – Bucharest
„Welcome to Romania!” Arrival at Otopeni International Airport. Enjoy a detailed sightseeing tour of Bucharest together with your local guide. Start with the Constitution Square, where you will find the Palace of the Parliament - the second largest building in the World after the Pentagon Building in the USA. The Romanian Parliament known as “Casa Poporului” (The People’s House) was built in just 5 years, spans 12 stories and 3100 rooms. The sightseeing tour continues with the Union Square and its beautiful spring fountains, with the University Square, the Roman Square, the Victory Square and the Charles de Gaulle Square. Check-in at the hotel. Overnight in Bucharest.
Day 2 Bucharest – Sighisoara
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive through idyllic Transylvanian landscapes and medieval villages. Discover Sighisoara, the medieval citadel, where Vlad the Impaler (Count Dracula) took his first steps. You will visit the world famous Dracula Castle.The town was settled by the Saxons in the 13th century. This delightful town still preserves the medieval atmosphere, its 14th-century wall, towers, and bastions. Enjoy a pleasant walking tour inside the citadel, which is on UNESCO World Heritage list, and visit the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill and the birth house of Count Dracula. Check-in and overnight at Sighisoara.
Day 3 Sighisoara – Brasov
As you wake up in the heart of the medieval citadel, have breakfast at the hotel and depart towards the city of Brasov. The walking tour in Brasov starts at the Council Square, built by the Saxons and called Marktplatz. One of the main highlights of the city is The Black Church, Romania’s leading gothic church, and the largest one between Vienna and Istanbul, that got its name after the Great Fire in 1689. On your tour, you will see also the narrowest street in Europe: the Rope Street. Check-in and overnight at Brasov.
Day 4 Brasov – Sinaia – Bucharest
After breakfast, you arrive in Sinaia, where you visit the Peles Castle. Considered by many one of the most stunning castles in Europe, The Peles Castle is a masterpiece of German new-Renaissance architecture. Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873, the castle served as the summer residence of the royal family until 1947. After the visit, you continue towards Bucharest. After the visit, you continue towards Bucharest and you do a walking tour of the Old City including the Stavropoleos Monastery and the Manuc’s Inn. Overnight stay
Day 5 Bucharest
Day at leisure in Bucharest. Group transfer in the afternoon to the airport for your departure and thank you for the visit!The package of £ 680 includes:
