Salzburgerland, Austria, Lessach 13, Lessach, ATHoliday Wed 2nd to Wed 9th September 2026 - A Guided Walking and Hiking holiday in the Austrian Alps of beautiful Salzburgerland.
Experience beautiful valley and hill walks, and mountain hikes with stunning views, in the Austrian Alps of Salzburgerland, along with its many traditions and customs.
Join us for this small-group, weeklong holiday in Salzburgerland, which includes an overnight stay in the UNESCO World heritage city of Salzburg, with a day of sightseeing, followed by 6 nights and 5 days of guided walks in Salzburg's Lungau region, one of the sunniest regions in all of Austria. In 2012 it was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for its extraordinary nature, quality of life, as well as its rich cultural traditions.
The Lungau area is a walker’s paradise with a wide network of well signed paths that include a great choice of gentle, moderate and challenging walks. Walks through enchanting forests, beautiful flower filled fields, visiting gushing waterfalls and mountain lakes, and hiking up (or take the easier route of a chair lift or cable car ride) to the mountain top, where you can enjoy stunning views of the mountain ranges that make up the Salzburg Alps. Along almost every route you will find a traditional mountain tavern (even at 2000 m high) where you can sit and enjoy something to eat and drink.
You will be met Salzburg airport, by your hosts for the week, Maria and Alan Gove, who will guide and look after you throughout your visit.
Arrival afternoon includes a visit to Hellbrun palace and its magic fountains, transfer to your hotel, followed by an evening meal in Salzburg centre. The next morning will include a visit to Mirabell palace and the Hohen fortress providing amazing views of the whole city, followed by time to explore more of Salzburg, its cathedral, shops and museums, before departing late afternoon for the pretty village of Lessach, an hour and a half’s drive away, where you will stay with Maria and Alan in their beautiful, traditional converted farmhouse ‘Chalet Gove’, which offers a comfortable home-from-home experience in a setting of unrivalled beauty.
Each day Maria and / or Alan will lead you on your day out walking in the Lungau region. Walks will be a mix of valley and hill walks, and the daily plan will be discussed the afternoon prior to ensure it is suitable for everyone in the group. Walks will be for around 4 hours each day (2 in the morning/2 in the afternoon).
As part of the Itinerary there will be the opportunity to visit some of the Castles and museums in the area as well as taking an easy ride to the top of the mountain by chair lift or cable car, and experiencing the many customs and traditions of the area.
Back at the Chalet, you can relax in the spacious but cosy lounge, where tea, coffee, soft drinks and fresh fruit are available at all times or simply sit in the sunny garden and enjoy the views.

HISTORY AND WINE IN OLD PLOVDIV
Plovdiv is situated in the heart of Bulgaria, surrounded by mighty pine-forest-covered mountains and breathtaking nature. The city has preserved extremely valuable cultural monuments from the Antiquity, the Middle Ages and Bulgarian Renaissance coexisting in harmony with contemporary culture.
A TRANQUIL CULTURAL CENTRE
This is an inspiring and magical setting to reconnect with yourself, find some tranquillity and soak up the local culture.
ANCIENT WINE TERROIRS
The area is one of the oldest wine terroirs in the world. The research and restoration of archaeological monuments in the region are some of the causes we support because we think that we, as Bulgarians, should be proud to be the heirs of such ancient history, and must do our best to preserve the cultural legacy and popularise it in the country and worldwide.
During our stay you will have the chance to visit secret location spots, off the beaten track.
Your local host will give loads of details and information about the best restaurants to dine in and sight you could explore in your free time. The local currency was BGN (leva), now is euro and the prices are still affordable.
