Learning Go for Perl programmers

Details

Fred Moyer will be speaking on the Golang programming language from the perspective of an experienced Perl programmer. Go was developed at Google over six years ago, and is a systems programming language that features lightweight threads (goroutines) and queuing (channels) as first class citizens.

This talk will go over basic Golang concepts from the lens of Perl programmers, and show examples of some use cases such as database interaction, JSON serialization, and a Hello World webserver.

Fred Moyer, winner of the White Camel award for 2013, and long time organizer of SF Perl should need no introduction at this point:

Don't forget to RSVP with your first and last name (you need to do this to get past security).

Dinner and drinks will be served (with vegan/vegetarian options), courtesy of Craigslist.

Doors are open for guests at 6:45pm, talk at 7pm and we need to clear out at 9pm (so the Craigslist staff can go home). If there's interest we'll gather afterwards at the Irish Bank Bar & Restaurant.
