"Under the Hood: Twitter Simplifies Scala and Cascading With Scalding"
Twitter, Oscar Boykin
Twitter's mission is to instantly connect people everywhere to what’s most meaningful to them. With over 200 million active users creating hundreds of millions of tweets every day, this requires quickly analyzing massive amounts of data at scale. This was the motivation behind Scalding, an open-source framework on top of MapReduce that allows data engineers to write big data jobs in a syntax that’s simple and concise. This talk will provide a brief history of Scalding, walk through real world use cases, examine some code examples and show interesting patterns we've seen in analytics to date.
