SPEEDY RESPONSE REQUIRED! SPRING PICNIC & MOVIE UNDER THE STARS AT VILLA ARCADIA

Details
We join the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation on their spring ‘Picnic Under the Stars’ on the lawns of Villa Arcadia. Bring your own picnic, camping chair, blankie, etc and enjoy the screening of an old Hollywood classic movie on a large outside screen while you sip your vino and enjoy your snacks. (For copyright reasons, they aren’t able to name the featured movie in their publicity but here are some clues: it’s a 1950 dark comedy critiquing Hollywood’s darker side. It stars William Holden and Gloria Swanson (as a faded silent film actress who’s ready for her close-up!). Expertly directed by Billy Wilder and shot in glorious black-and-white, this promises to be a wonderful trip down memory lane…..
If you really want to get into the swing of things, the dress theme is ‘Old Hollywood Decay’, which apparently refers to a perceived or actual decline of Hollywood’s Golden Age and its iconic industry. So I guess this would mean hauling out the vintage, somewhat worn Hollywood-noir garb, and wear it with harsh make-up and dramatic accessories like feathers, long gloves and cigarette holders. For men, classic suits with fedoras and suspenders…. (I DARE YOU!)
We gather on the Villa Arcadia Lawns, Hollard, 1 Federation Road, Parktown at 18:30, and the 2-hour screening starts at 19:00.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. BOOKING FOR THIS TOUR WILL CLOSE ON 23 SEPTEMBER AS AN ATTENDEE LIST NEEDS TO BE SHARED WITH HOLLARD IN ADVANCE.
2. SHOULD IT RAIN, THE EVENT WILL BE CANCELLED WITHOUT REFUND. (BECAUSE A NON-REFUNDABLE VIEWING LICENCE HAS TO BE BOUGHT FOR EACH SPECIFIC SCREENING!)
3. SECURE PARKING ON THE PREMISES.
