It's that time of year again where we do our bit for the animals!

Calling all of our animal lover FUN ZONERS again like the last 5 or 6 years! Anyone keen on donating a few hours of personal time to wrap gifts for shoppers at Sandton City - in aid of the Sandton SPCA? No special skill required - just a load of fun, and so very much appreciated by the public!

We have been providing this service to the SPCA Sandton for several years now, and it has been MEGA fun! In doing so, we have raised handsome amounts for the organisation so desperately in need of help! Of course there can be no better cause (in my mind!) than animals, because they depend entirely on the support and goodwill of caring human beings. No government support or anything luxurious like that for them, sadly.

The idea is that we have an attractive and well-placed SPCA branded stand in a busy area of the mall and wrap gifts for shoppers passing by. They give donations that go to the Sandton SPCA, and walk away with beautifully wrapped prezzies. The Sandton SPCA provides the wrapping paper, ribbons, scissors, sellotape and everything else we need. We add the colour and pizzazz by our friendly interaction with the shoppers, and each other.

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:
I have scheduled this particular date in the hope that a few 50+ FUN ZONERS will join me for ONE OR MORE of the shifts (coz it is a lot of fun that way and we can do a little cappuccino or something after). There are 3 slots on this day, namely 09:00 - 13:00; 13:00 - 17:00, and 17:00 - 21:00.

(Please note THIS session is on 15 December 2025 with 3 shifts from 09:00 - 13:00, 13:00 - 17:00, AND 17:00 - 19:00! Ideally, they need 4 people per shift. )

If you want to help, but cannot make this date, please sign up for another date in your own capacity by calling Yolande Van Rooyen, their Marketing Manager, on 071 484 0949, because the SPCA is in need of lots of volunteers to keep the gift wrapping going from 1 – 24 December 2025. I can also do this on your behalf, IF YOU INDICATE WHICH SESSION AND TIME YOU PREFER IN THE COMMENTS SECTION ON THIS EVENTS PAGE - NOT IN THE EVENT CHAT OR A PERSONAL EMAIL TO ME, PLEASE - BECAUSE EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO TRACK THE INTEREST ON THE PUBLIC PLATFORM.

VERY IMPORTANT!
Please be sure that you can definitely make the time slot you indicate, as I will be doing the liaison with them in the name of the 50+ FUN ZONE. This is a significant marketing opportunity for us! We don't want late cancellations and people who do not honour their commitment, as this will damage the reputation of the 50+ FUN ZONE, and make it difficult for the SPCA to meet their obligation to Sandton City management. Not to mention how we will let down the animals....!

The SPCA provides pretty aprons and fun alice bands for us to wear. They are usually blue and white, or red, so if you can, please wear a white shirt and blue jeans so that we all look the same.

Our parking tickets for the Sandton City mall will be validated, so remember to bring them along....

Let’s do it AGAIN for helpless and abused animals…. And have a great deal of fun as we do it!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:

1. Location - 2 booths in the centre walkways - top one near Woolworths.
2. Alice Lane parking is closest. Try to park on Level 6 (olive colour), then walk straight into the Woolworths Court. Our main booth can be seen from there! We will report there for every shift, and get our parking tickets validated.
3. Reporting for duty a few minutes before - at the top floor booth!
4. We will again wear the blue and white or red SPCA aprons, over our own comfortable clothing (try something blue and white, like blue jeans and a white T-shirt, if possible!).
5. Sandton City provides the wrapping paper and ribbons, etc.
6. The Team Leader will bring you up to speed re what to do, etc. E.g. it is important to let people know before you start wrapping that we work on a donation basis. There is a donation guideline that will be communicated when we arrive. We accept cash, credit card and SnapScan and prefer credit and SnapScan, of course. The donation box remains locked.
