Poudre Canyon Getaway Camping Trip

It's too late to get campground reservations for July. However, the Kelly Flat's campground is entirely First Come First Serve with 29 campsites. We are showing up as the weekenders are going home.

This camping event will be over 4 days--Sunday night, Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday night. We will depart on Thursday, UNLESS someone wants to stay longer. First Come First Served is easy when you are already in the campsite. You could elect to stay in the same campsite for 14 days if you're having that much fun.

When we get closer to the event, I will start collecting information from you. When you plan to come and leave, dietary restrictions, and other logistics will be covered before we hit the road.

This will be my 5th camping trip this year. Several of the people who attend will have camped with me before. We have a routine. Plan on prepared meals with people sharing food preparation duties and food costs. If you don't eat well, it's your own fault. Blueberry pancakes has become a standard. Applewood smoked bacon will be there.

PLEASE READ: A common refrain I hear from both newbies and more experienced campers is the cold. We had freezing rain this past week at 8,000-ish feet of elevation. People were cold at night. We are going to the mountains and freezing temps are ALWAYS a possibility. Bring a winter jacket, a stocking cap, sweat pants, and a sleeping bag rated to +20 degrees. I purchased (2) $20 rectangular sleeping bags rated to 35 degrees. On cold nights I put one inside the other. I've slept very comfortably while others have shivered. My approach is less expensive than a +20 degree bag and provides more flexibility. In the hours between dinner and bedtime, we will have a wood fire or gather around the propane fire ring.
