Neuroscience of Mindfulness: Its Powers and Limits, a Conversation with Sanjay.

See the earlier presentation by Sanjay on Neuroscience here: https://youtu.be/R0Na_YKthmw

Six introductory questions:

  1. What is meditation, and specifically Mindfulness meditation?
  2. Is there an effective & simple form of Mindfulness anyone can learn?
  3. Why does our mind wander, and intrusive thoughts emerge?
  4. Can mindfulness truly calm our brain, and stop all distractions?
  5. After long-term practice of mindfulness, what changes in our brain? What do these changes help with?
  6. Can a "state of mindfulness" become a positive recurring habit?

We will explore these concepts:

♦ What occurs in the brain during Meditative states? Which brain regions are activated & inactivated?
♦ The nature and significance of the Default Mode Network (DMN), a possibly important set of distinct brain regions.
♦ We practice Mindfulness mostly during states of Consciousness. We will explore strong correlations between both, and take an initial look at Consciousness.
♦ How does our mind remove negative/toxic emotions & thoughts -- analogous to how our body removes toxins?

Welcome to the series "Comprehensivist Wednesdays". Transdisciplinarity, Renaissance humanism, homo universalis, and Polymathy are some of the ways of describing this approach which Buckminster Fuller called Comprehensivity and described as “macro-comprehensive and micro-incisive”.
