Cognition: Attention, Love, Outsourcing & Compulsion @ Comprehensivist Wed
Details
We will be discussing 4 different aspects of cognition
- What are the similarities and differences between intention and attention? Is one “chicken” and the other “egg”?
- How do we outsource cognitive work into our environment? Are tools for cognition different from tools for physical work?
- What distinguishes impulse from compulsion?
- How does love interact with cognition?
Format:
- Introduction: Derek will introduce the four topics in conversation with Shrikant
- We will run 3 rounds of breakout rooms where for each round you can choose one of the 4 topics to discuss--so you get to discuss 3 of the topics or the same topic thrice as you choose.
- Lightening Round: You come back from the breakout rooms with the biggest question on your mind and then hear quick answers from many folks to your question.
It's going to be good; don't miss it!
Welcome to the series "Comprehensivist Wednesdays". Transdisciplinarity, Renaissance humanism, homo universalis, and Polymathy are some of the ways of describing this approach which Buckminster Fuller called Comprehensivity and described as “macro-comprehensive and micro-incisive”.
