In this month's Design Your Life meetup, we will explore the difference between fixed identity and growth identity and what it really means to live a life shaped not just by what we are, but by what we are becoming.

Using Carol Dweck's research on mindset, we will examine the difference between the beliefs that tie us to fixed roles, such as labels, titles, test scores, natural talent, and past performance, and the beliefs that tie us to ongoing learning, such as effort, strategy, curiosity, and resilience in the face of setbacks. Dweck demonstrates how we all live with an inner tension. One side of us wants to prove, protect, and be validated. The other wants to stretch, fail forward, and grow.

We will discuss Dweck's own challenge: "Becoming is better than being."

The question becomes practical. Are we designing our lives around proving who we already are, or around becoming who we could be? Which fixed-mindset triggers most often hijack us when challenged, criticized, or compared? How do we cultivate a learner's identity in a culture that rewards looking smart over getting smarter?

Reading or watching the materials is helpful, but not required to join.
