Tools for Comprehensivity: Ambiguity, Contradiction, & Paradox @ComprehensivistW

Details
As the practice of comprehensive learning integrates more and more knowing from more and more traditions of learning, we are increasingly likely to consider ideas that are incompatible with other ideas. Accommodating these situations of ambiguity, contradiction, or paradox may seem challenging for the aspiring comprehensivist, one who aspires to understand it all and each other. We will try to turn lemons into lemonade and see the challenge of ambiguity as a profound tool for our comprehensive learning.
In particular, this event will explore the way to thinking about ambiguity, contradiction, and paradox developed by William Byers in the 2007 book "How Mathematicians Think: Using Ambiguity, Contradiction, and Paradox to Create Mathematics". To learn more about this approach read my essay summarizing his thesis and its application to comprehensive learning at https://www.cjfearnley.com/CfC/2022/02/tools-for-comprehensivity-ambiguity-contradiction-and-paradox/
Welcome to the series "Comprehensivist Wednesdays". Transdisciplinarity, Renaissance humanism, homo universalis, and Polymathy are some of the ways of describing this approach which Buckminster Fuller called Comprehensivity and described as “macro-comprehensive and micro-incisive”.
