Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms® is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free.

The coming season of summer brings the full blaze of the sun’s heat, and time for connection, celebration and remembering the abundance of our brilliant source of energy. Plants fruit and ripen, the outdoors thrums with activity, the insect world fills the world with the rhythms of life’s endurance. The temperature rises and the nights grow short, inviting us to take rest on cool beaches and immerse ourselves in watery depths of release. We gather around the night fires and BBQs, with practices that celebrate and connect us to the vibrancy of community.
As we approach the summer solstice, I invite you to dance the polarities of the 5Rhythms as we explore each rhythm in its endarkened and enlightened expression. Equilibrium: A 5Rhythms® Equinox Exploration With Jeffrey Boynton
Mountain Light Retreat, 6656 Mountain Light Place, Crozet, VA, USThis soothing season of release and bounty, of shorter days and cooling winds, delights us in an exuberant display of color and abundance, a reflective space of gratitude and luciferous change. The coming season of autumn brings a shift into decidedly cooler and longer nights; a time for harvesting, fruition, and transition for many forms of life in this hemisphere. Leaves brighten, crisp and fall. Melancholy musings turn our focus inward as the space between the possibilities of Summer and emptiness of Winter arrives. Birds begin to fly to warmer climates, opening the soundscapes of our mornings and evenings into a growing silence. Fruit and leaves begin to litter the forest floor as their bodies nourish whatever grows next. Some of us venture out into the wilds while the temperate weather persists, gathering around fires, with practices that acknowledge and give thanks. Some return to learning and the halls and chambers of curiosity, reconfiguring families and offering new opportunities to the next generations.

The coming season of winter brings with it the return of the light, and a long period of rest for many forms of life in this hemisphere.
