MOBILE

How do you do customer development on a game? How can you A/B test on mobile?

Does lean startup fall by the wayside when you have to wait for approval in the app store?

The mobile market keeps growing and having a mobile strategy is no longer an option for most companies. "Mobile first" is the strategy. But quickly testing ideas is difficult when your target use case is "while killing time on the bus" and is competiting against dozens of other apps on the home screen and a million apps in the app store.

We'll hear lightning talks and case studies from founders applying lean startup to a variety of domains including games, B2B, & B2C.

Talks by:

• Web vs. Mobile Games - Prototypes, Timeboxes and Taste by Zach Larson, CEO Threadbare Games

• Start a business not a hobby- B2B customer development by Arthur Bart-Williams, CEO Canogle

• How I actually "got out of the building" by Nick Noreña, Chief Storyteller shoto

About Zach Larson

Zach has been leading cross-disciplinary teams building cool consumer internet stuff since '99. He's spent time as a developer, a designer, a sysadmin, and a product guy. In 2007 he co-founded SideReel, a web startup focused on helping consumers index and manage their video entertainment. SideReel was acquired in 2011 by Rovi. Zach left Rovi in 2012 and founded Threadbare Games, an Oakland startup making awesome strategy games for mobile devices.

He’s @zachlarson (http://www.twitter.com/zachlarson) on Twitter and posts frequently on the Threadbare blog (http://www.threadbaregames.com/company/blog.threadbaregames.com).

Arthur Bart-Williams

Arthur is a serial entrepreneur with over 17 years experience who is passionate about startups, mentorship and making a difference. His latest venture, Canogle (https://angel.co/canogle), is a mobile platform for organizations and agencies- that manage parks and open space- to create engaging experiences for their visitors. He excels at building high performance teams, and growing companies through exceptional customer relationships along with quality products and services. He has been responsible for operations, enterprise level sales and implementation in various industry verticals including infrastructure, education, transportation, energy, health and government. He is a Civil Engineering graduate of University of California, Berkeley.

About Nick Noreña

Nick Noreña studied Religion at Davidson College, and in a former life, worked in wilderness therapy as a direct-care instructor. He is currently a co-founder at shoto, and heads up their customer development efforts. shoto is an easy way for you to share photos with the people you took them with, and comes in the form of a free mobile app. Nick's interest in customer development began when he read Steve Blank's blog for the first time, which lead him down a long and winding path of numerous books and other blogs related to the Lean Startup discourse. He finally got fed up with reading about other people's stories and figured he'd give it a whirl himself when he realized that he kept asking people to send him photos that they took with him and they never did...
