Questions on Purpose Meetup: Should you follow your passion?

Details

Following on from June's meetup on curiosity, this July we'll explore passion. There's a lot out there on why you should (or shouldn't) follow your passion so it's a useful area to investigate. What does passion look like to you in the context of work? Should you look to your passions outside work to find your next step? And how do you reconcile passion with what you're good at or what you can be paid for? We'll cover these questions in our July meetup. Both past and new attendees are welcome!

If you've ever wondered about purpose, meaningful work, or making a positive impact on the world, this event is for you. The idea behind this group is to provide a community for conversation and exploration, a space to ask the difficult questions and to inspire and encourage each other.

Format:

Introductions - Where are you now, where do you want to be, what's getting in your way? (Don't worry if you don't have the answers yet.)

Ways of thinking about your direction in life and work - questions and guidance to structure your thinking.

Discussions - either all together or in smaller groups if there are lots of us. Each event will have a focus topic, with room to explore questions that are important to you right now.

Plans for action - one small step that you will take before the next event.

Your facilitator:

Christine -
I am seeking to understand my own purpose in life and am interested in meeting others who are on a similar journey. I enjoy exploring issues from all sides and having the benefit of others’ perspectives to broaden and inform my own perspective. Looking forward to many great conversations with this group!

About Questions on Purpose:

This is a group for anyone thinking about:

  • how to find meaningful work
  • how to live a more purposeful life
  • how to make a positive impact on the world.

It's a place for meaningful conversation and discussion, for asking questions and helping each other find answers. Everyone is welcome.

Finding your purpose in work (and life) can be a lonely process, but it doesn't have to be. The idea behind this group is to provide a community for conversation and exploration, a space to ask the difficult questions and to inspire and encourage each other.

About the organiser:

My own journey to find purposeful work has taken me from Psychology to Existentialism and from not-for-profits to freelancing. In the process I've read widely on meaning and purpose, on designing your life (and work) and on living differently. Last autumn I started interviewing people about purpose - how they've found it, wrestled with it, and sometimes found peace in the process. So far I've interviewed: a Philosopher, an entrepreneur, a yogi, a very modern Buddhist monk, a blind adventurer, and many others. I'm on a mission to interview 100 people by the end of 2018 and I'll be sharing the stories as I go. I'm no an expert, and I'm not a coach, but I do understand what it's like to feel lost and directionless. I know that meaningful conversations with like-minded souls have made the biggest difference in my own search for purpose, and that is what this group is here for.
