Making your Home Fun and Smart Without Giving up your Privacy

Having used several home automation platforms (X-10, Vera, Lowes Iris, Smart Things, OpenHab, Hubitat, Home Assistant) and deciding that none of them fully supported everything I wanted to do. I stopped trying to find the do-it-all platform and decided to focus on taking what I like about several different platforms and find a way to tie them all together. My automation / 'smart home' is always a work-in-progress; but come learn from my mistakes and learn about some of the successes and failures I've had to hopefully inspire your own journey. I'll be doing a tiny smart-home example live....so wish me luck.

801 Labs is now meeting in person!!!

Every Thursday night, the local DEF CON group DC801 hangs out at the 801Labs hackerspace for people to come work on projects, help others with projects, and get to know some of the others in the area. These events are open to the public.

If you are new and do not see a lot of RSVPs, be aware that most people that show up do not RSVP. There will be people there nearly every Thursday.
