Walk in without a license, walk out with a passing exam. Ham Radio Village is returning to 801 Labs for **Ham In A Day**, a one-day crash course that prepares you for the FCC Technician amateur radio exam. You'll take the exam on site at the end of class.

No experience is needed. Morse code isn't required, and the Technician exam is mostly rules, safety, and operating practice, with very little math.

**Why get licensed?**
Ham radio is the original hacker community. A license lets you legally transmit, build and experiment with your own radios and antennas, and work with SDR, APRS, mesh networking, satellites, and more. It's a great skill set for anyone in security, IT, or the maker world.

**Schedule (Saturday, October 24)**
- 8:30 AM: Doors open
- 9:00 AM: Class starts (promptly!)
- Midday: Short lunch break (lunch is not provided; bring your own or try Crown Burger next door)
- End of class: Digital license exam on site
**Before you come**
1. **Register for the exam** on [ham.study](https://ham.study/sessions/6ad812814b96eb79344f00f7/1)
2. **Get your free FCC Registration Number (FRN)** at https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/. You can't test without one. This is part of the sign up process on ham.study
3. **Optional, but highly recommended:** spend a few hours on https://ham.study (free flashcards) or read the free KB6NU Technician guide at https://www.kb6nu.com/study-guides/. More tips are at https://hamvillage.org/study.

**Bring**
- Photo ID (required)
- Your FRN
- Your own lunch
**Cost**
The class and exam are free. After you pass, the FCC charges a $35 license fee, which you pay directly to the FCC.

Already licensed? Come test for General or Extra, or just come hang out with fellow hams.
