Buddy System Coding: Exploring Test-Driven Development and Pair Programming

Details

8LU is partnering with Guild Row to bring you a workshop that's certainly more engaging than your average office seminar, open to software and data engineers of all stripes—from seasoned experts to the merely curious. Led by the seasoned professionals at 8th Light, explore the art of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Pair Programming. You’ll refine your coding skills to achieve remarkable precision and reliability. Team up to discover why two brains are better than one at a keyboard, reducing headaches and doubling efficiency. It’s not just practical—it’s genuinely enjoyable. Dinner and non-alcoholic beverages included.

What to Bring
Participants should bring a laptop with your choice of code editor, language, and test framework. Please have an empty project with a failing test-case ready to go, such as https://github.com/swkBerlin/kata-bootstraps. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about device setup.

Agenda
This event will be a half-day version of the popular Global Day of Code Retreat (https://www.coderetreat.org/about/). We'll kick it off with information about Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Pair Programming, and spend the rest of the time putting our learning into practice. During three practice rounds, you'll pair up with different partners to work on a code kata. Finally, we'll reflect on what we've learned and brainstorm ways to incorporate these powerful practices into our real-world engineering work.
