Mappy Valentine's! - Playing with (heart) projections and QGIS
Details
Hello!
Join us for a quick intro to loading data into QGIS and a chat about projections - what they are (broadly) and why they matter. We'll mess around with some continent outlines from Natural Earth and learn some quick symbology techniques for creating Valentine's cards in QGIS's Print Composer with the Bonne projection.
For some background:

What to bring: A laptop (Mac or PC!) with QGIS loaded. You can find the open-source software available at www.qgis.org (you can donate to the project there as well if you become enamored!).
Yes, yes, yes. I know it is actually Valentine's Day proper so for those intrepid maptimers that attend, we'll keep it short AND you'll get to create a last-minute card for that one you forgot to buy before your swanky dinner reservation. The library has printing services, so really, you can make a card (estimated cost $0.50):

(If no one RSVPs by Wed, Feb 13th at 2pm, I will cancel this session)
Happy hearts,
Diane
