Geospatial Visualizations in Tableau Public
Details
A number of data visualization softwares are adding geospatial capabilities and Tableau is one of them. We're going to explore how we can make simple maps with data using the public version of Tableau and see how their data dashboard works.
Come to the meetup with Tableau Public loaded on your machine. You can download it from here: https://public.tableau.com/ after you provide them with an email you'd like them to have. When you click on "Download the App" it automatically starts downloading the 32-bit Windows version, so cancel that and reselect if you need 64-bit or Mac.
We'll start with a simple spreadsheet dataset we can all explore together, but bring your own data file you'd like to investigate. Tableau can connect to all sorts of formats such as .xls, .shp, .pdf, .json, .kml, .sav, etc., so let's see some variety for a challenge! [NOTE - don't bring any data you want to keep private as all Tableau Public information is stored on the cloud.]
As always, there's the option to drift to nearby calorie suppliers for further discussion as 8pm rolls around.
See you on Thursday, May 9th!
