Kids Yoga (walking-4yo) PM session (parent accompanied)
Details
Yoga is a fun way for children to develop a variety of important skills in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. During a parent-child yoga class, there is a complete absence of judgement and competition. There is no pressure to master the "perfect" yoga pose. In this positive, encouraging environment, children learn to relax and have fun whilst developing strength, coordination, flexibility and balance, as well as increasing body awareness, concentration and self-esteem.
Children are encouraged to respect and pay attention to their bodies, making sure each pose feels good. This becomes an important skill as they grow and their bodies change. Having the skill to listen carefully to the body and heart is not just a method to avoid injury, but also makes it easier to be self-reflective and make good choices when dealing with peer pressure.
Children in this age group are advancing from infancy into their preschool years. During this time, there will be tremendous intellectual, social, and emotional changes. They learn best by imitating behavior of others and they love to be in the company of other children. They learn through and LOVE repetition like how young children like the same story read to them every night. Every class begins and ends the same way to promote familiarity. There will be visual props, yoga story time, yoga journeys and lots of singing and dancing! Quiet time (otherwise known as meditation in adult practice) will be practiced in every session.

About the teacher
Mama Huiyun, a certified Rainbow Kids Yoga Instructor has been practicing Yoga for more than 14 years since her college days in NUS. A stay-at-home-mother of 2 young boys, she spends part of her time running weekly movement & music play dates (with Home Play Singapore 家佳乐) for babies and toddlers at home and more recently, monthly music & movement with sensory play dates at a family-friendly cafe (Inspirit House) in Punggol Settlement.
She deeply believes that Yoga itself has an unique healing power. It calms the mind down and increase self-awareness and in the long term, overall well-being. In this fast paced society (like Singapore), kids (even babies or toddlers) have higher stress levels compared to a few decades ago. The stressful emotions from a parent may be translated to the baby or the child, unknowingly. Yoga allows one to switch from the "doing" mode to a "being" mode. Introducing yoga to kids at a young age is beneficial as it primes them for their busy lives in years ahead- to be aware of their own limits, to slowly but surely push towards a higher ground, to show gratitude to little things in life, to know when and how to slow down and recharge, to accept who they really are and be comfortable in their own skin.
