Gaucho, Kally Price and Craig Ventresco at SF Live Arts Saturday, January 26th

Details

Django Reinhardt was the brilliant jazz guitarist who invented hot jazz. He was born Jan 23, 1910. Hundreds of Hot Clubs have sprouted around the world to promote his thrilling Gypsy Jazz sound. Join us Saturday, January 26 as we celebrate Django's 103 birthday with a hot night of Gypsy Jazz, pre-war blues, and ragtime. Featuring GAUCHO,KALLY PRICE & the Old Blues & Jazz Band and CRAIG VENTRESCO Tickets are only $10 advance and $12 at the door. http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/b/1/8/event_196691032.jpegGaucho recently celebrated their first decade at the forefront of the Bay Area gypsy jazz scene. Knowing a good thing when they hear it, SF Weekly readers voted them number one jazz band in the Bay Area . Though still steeped in the Django Reinhardt songbook, composer Dave Ricketts now adds New Orleans flavored rhythms to stylish originals.

A mainstay of the SF retro blues and jazz band scene, she first made a name for herself with the North Carolina band, The Lazybirds. Lately she fronts The Old Blues and Jazz Band, a 5 piece band comprised of some of the Bay Area's best old time players. Dynamic and full of soulful energy, her voice transports one to rare, exotic musical climes rarely encountered these days.

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/9/5/8/event_196723352.jpegCraig VentrescoCraig is simply one of the best ragtime guitarists in the country. His music is featured in films such as Ghost World and Crumb. He plays songs on the six string guitar, ukulele, and mandolin that date
from the decades around the turn of the century and earlier. Whether blues, jazz, ragtime, or popular songs, He attacks them like a stride pianist running the keyboard. He plays with such speed, dexterity,
and power, you will marvel that the human ear can even register so many notes and in such swinging formations.

There is usually plenty of street parking, but if needed, there is free parking 2 blocks away at the Blood Centers of Pacific parking lot, located at Turk and Masonic.

Show starts at 8:00pm, but let's meet by 7:45pm so we can get to meet each other. If you have any questions or need to find me at the show my mobile is 510-499-7806. If you arrive late, after the music has started, ask for Marlene and she will show you where the group is seating.
