Security in the Cloud: AWS Resources and Best Practices

The AWS cloud infrastructure has been architected to be one of the most flexible and secure cloud computing environments available today. It provides an extremely scalable, highly reliable platform that enables customers to deploy applications and data quickly and securely. When using the AWS cloud, not only are infrastructure headaches removed, but so are many of the security issues that come with them.

Please join Amazon Web Services on October 10 in San Francisco to learn about the security of the AWS cloud itself, the security resources that the platform makes available to our customers and best practices for maintaining security in the AWS cloud. We will be featuring special customer guest speakers from CardSpring and Coupa, who will share how they have achieved PCI compliance and met enterprise-level security requirements using AWS.

Networking reception to follow.

Speakers

Bill Shinn | Principal Solutions Architect - Security, Amazon Web Services

Bill Shinn is a Principal Security Solution Architect at Amazon Web Services. He spends his time helping customers understand privacy, security and compliance as they move their business to AWS. Prior to AWS, Bill spent over 12 years managing and leading information security operations and architecture initiatives at some of the largest US financial institutions, including US Bank and JP Morgan Chase.

Jeff Winner| CTO, Cardspring

CardSpring is a web service API that turns your customers’ credit and debit cards into digital loyalty cards for your business. It provides application developers easy access to payment transactions in real time. However, creating apps for payment cards necessitates PCI compliance. Jeff Winner, CTO of CardSpring, will discuss how AWS has enabled CardSpring to not only get to market quicker but also achieve PCI Compliance without needing to build out an entire datacenter.

Sanket Naik | VP Cloud Operations, Coupa

Coupa is redefining e-procurement software and making it easy for people to help save their company money. Its cloud-based set of applications – that also works on mobile – need to meet enterprise-level security standards to satisfy their customers, which include Toyota, Salesforce.com and Subway. Sanket Naik, Vice President of Cloud Operations at Coupa, will share how Coupa meets the security requirements that these enterprises expect while still offering an effective cloud-based solution using Amazon Web Services.

It's really great to see how robust AWS' security practices are and how the platform is becoming ever more "mission critical" ready, how large enterprise adoption is increasing. There was just enough practical information and clarification for those looking to solve specific problems without getting too "in the weeds".

You may want to start scheduling these meetups to start between 6 and 7 to allow people to finish work and then head over.

I am the CISO for several healthcare start ups using AWS for their SaaS offerings. I'd be glad to talk with you and address any concerns you have.

    Hi Mason,

Not sure who's using these apps... You might need a cloud VPN solution with 2 factor authentication for remote users. CipherGraph offers a Cloud Access Gateway that's easy to configure available on the AWS marketplace. (Full disclosure, I am working with CipherGraph)
