This Thurday (8/31): DevShop featuring React Workshop!!!

Hi Meteorites!

I hope you've been having a great summer, although it feels like an early fall. It's been quiet here at Meteor-NYC, and we're looking forward to catching up this Thursday (8/31).

Hands on Learning at DevShop

This month, we're being hosted at Priceline's midtown offices. In addition to sponsoring our location, Priceline has generously offered to start the evening with a hands-on React workshop. Last month, I finally caved and started teaching myself React, using video courses and Mastering React from Packt Publishing. The book was part of a daily free offer that they provide – sign up for their list if you're interested. I'm looking forward to the Priceline workshop, which is an abbreviation of a full 4-hour hands on workshop they will soon announce. It begins promptly at 6:30 PM.

Meteor and Containers

The folks at MDG haven't been idle. This summer saw the release of Meteor 1.5 followed quickly by a 1.5.1 minor release which featured developer enhancements such as code splitting, dynamic imports, server-side rendering, and a bundle visualizer package (bundle-visualizer). A few weeks ago, members from the Meteor/Apollo team visited NY to present to the GraphQL NYC meetup group. Shashko's slides from the presentation can be found in the comments section there.

For our talks this month, we have an intermediary/advanced topic being presented by Justin Krup and Mirza Joldic on their open source project meteor-now. And we'll have a back-to-basics beginner/intermediate presentation on developing JavaScript applications using Meteor, MongoDB Atlas, and Docker by yours truly. If you'd like to learn more about operationalizing containers, consider attending Digital Ocean's Continuous Deployment/Integration meetup on Sept. 14. We're actively soliciting presentations (demos/tutorials/tech talks/other) for September/October DevShops so please suggest one to us and we'll get it scheduled.

As always, food and refreshments will be provided, sponsored by MDG :-)

Be well and see you soon.
