Description: Join us for a hike in the scenic Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to hike Mt Minsi.

The Delaware Water Gap is a 70,000 acre park along a 40-mile stretch of the Delaware River that was initially preserved in 1965 for a proposed dam project to create a large reservoir. The dam was halted largely by the public, including AMC, and the land acquired for the dam was fully turned over to the park service in 1978. Today you can still enjoy the dramatic views of the river cutting through the Kittatinny mountains.

We will have a short walk from the town of Water Gap to the trail head. From there we will start hiking along the Appalachian Trail. Along our route we will see several views of the Delaware River, waterfalls, a small pond and have a stream crossing all before our first view of Mt Tammany.

We will continue to climb past the view of Mt Tammany to the top of Mount Minsi. There is a second spot to enjoy the views of the Delaware river cutting through the water gap area. This is a great place to enjoy a trail snack before returning the way we came to meet Lake Road trail to hike back to the trail head.

We will be doing 5 miles and a total of 1,043 feet of elevation gain.
The section of the Appalachian trail we will be hiking is steep. We will be doing about 1,000 feet of gain in just two miles. There will also be lots of rocks on trail and roots. We will be taking out time for the steep climb, and taking breaks as needed.

Please wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes with good grip, and trekking poles are strongly recommended for the trail conditions. If it has recently rained, trails may be muddy. Bring plenty of water and snacks. Hike may be canceled due to inclement weather. Hike leader will contact you the day of for cancellation.

Note this hike will be starting earlier than most of the 20s/ 30s hikes to avoid the heat and ensure group can find parking as this is a popular spot.

Join us afterwards for a post hike lunch or treat at the Village Farmer and Bakery in the town of Water Gap.

This trip is intended to be a 20s/30s affinity trip. Participation is limited to those who identify with this age group. If you have any questions about eligibility or the nature of this trip, please contact the trip leader by email for more information.

Please note: In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Description: Join other 20s/30s for a brisk but casual 4.5 mile loop through the Wissahickon ending with a stop for famous Dallesandro’s cheesesteaks (or cheese hoagies! Or BYO). If you are in your 20’s or 30’s, this event has been especially designed for you! Expect the hike to take about 1.5-2 hours, with an extra hour or so for a leisurely lunch and social time.
We will meet at the Wissahickon Creek Trailhead, on Jannette Street, just off of Henry Avenue. This starting point should afford easy street parking as well as bus accessibility.
We’ll be able to enter the Wissahickon Park on the Yellow Trail and follow it for about 1.5 miles and then head down to Forbidden Drive for about half a mile before heading into the woods to seek Gorga’s Creek Cave . Following our footsteps back along Forbidden Drive, we’ll cross the Wissahickon Creek and start on the Orange Trail, eventually dropping down to Forbidden Drive and crossing the Historic Blue Stone Bridge. We’ll find the Yellow Trail and follow it back to our starting point.
From there, it’s just a few blocks to Dallesandro’s - you can choose to walk or drive across busy Henry Avenue. Everyone can buy their food (or grab their brown bags) and meet back up to chow down. There is no indoor seating but there are picnic tables nearby.
Plan for some ups and downs as well as mud; Expect about 400 of elevation. Hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes are a must. Dress in layers to accommodate spring chill in the beginning and end while allowing for lighter layers as we burn our pre-lunch calories. Bring at least a liter of water (more for lunch) and snacks for the walk. Heavy rain cancels.

Description: Description: French Creek State Park and the adjoining Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site offer nearly 8,000 acres of forests, fields and lakes, including nearly 35 miles of hiking trails. This is an AMC 20s/30s group hike of approximately 6 miles (575' of elevation) at a relaxed pace.

The hike will round Hopewell Lake, briefly visit Hopewell Furnace Historic Site and swing by Scotts Lake. This hike is rated "moderate" because of some rocks, a climb and a chance for mud. It is not a workout hike. We will take time to stop for breaks at the top of hills and as needed to keep the group together.

The starting location is at the French Creek State Park playground parking area. This is just 800 feet (southwest) of the Hopewell Lake boat ramp parking area. The GPS coordinates for the playground are: 40.1983077435609,-75.79114511944678. There are modern bathrooms at the start. We’ll meet there just before 11:00 AM and leave soon after.

Wear sturdy footwear. Pack water, lunch/snacks, and appropriate clothes. Cell phone reception is sometimes spotty at French Creek. Adverse weather conditions which make it unsafe to drive or hike will cancel. Well behaved dogs may attend this hike if they are leashed and can keep up with the group over the full distance.

Optional after-hike refreshments at The Inn at St Peters Village, 3471 St Peter's Rd Saint Peters, PA 19470 https://www.facebook.com/innatstpetersvillage/

This hike is intended to be a 20s/30s affinity activity so participation is limited to those who identify with this age group. If you have questions about eligibility or the nature of this activity, please contact the trip leader[s] by email for more information.
